You All Move Me!!!

This is the third Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon event that Heather and I have had the pleasure of organizing, and I can feel the excitement in the air maybe more than ever! There’s a palpable energy on the website and Twitter and Facebook, and I’m constantly impressed, humbled, and energized by YOUR EXCITEMENT!

omg

We have some really cool things in the mix for this fall Read-a-Thon.

  • Our numbers have grown in part because of the participation of the #BookTube community! That’s right, YouTube has a thriving book discussion community, and we invited them to party with us!
  • We have a strong, organized group of Dutch participants and French participants who have joined forces to grow the Read-a-Thon representation in their countries!
  • We have publishers who have donated HUNDREDS of prizes!
  • We have individual donors who have answered the call to offer more international prizes to meet the needs of our global participants!
  • We have a dedicated participant who made bookmarks for EVERY CHEERLEADER plus about 100 more to boot!
  • We have a generous contingent of willing bloggers who got us amped up this week with their tips and tricks and remembrances via guest posts!

Dewey would be SO STINKING HAPPY to see this community of book lovers from around the world come together to honor our love of reading and of bookish community!

THIS IS WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT!!!! And thank you, and you, and you, and ALL of you for being a part of it! Without you, we’d just have a lot of spreadsheets. πŸ˜‰

  1. I got a bit teary eyed reading this. The readathon reminds us all exactly why we all got into blogging, to have fun and meet other fantastic book people. And read and eat! Thank you for all the hard work you put into organising.

  2. Girlll, I got teary writing it! I just love it! I am filled with pure bookish joy twice per year. πŸ˜€

  3. I’m so excited! Dunno who I’m cheering for yet but getting in some early *cheers* to a few newbies so they feel the love. #TeamTiger represent!
p.s Katy Perry’s ROAR is the perfect track to dance around for a couple minutes to boost your energy.

  4. Wow! That’s incredible. I know I’m inspired. I’ve written several thousand words on the readathon and will have more to say. My refrigerator is full of snacks and goodies. I’ve been prowling the bookstacks here at the house in search of books, and I’m planning to have fun, fun, fun.

Even signed up as a cheerleader at the 11th hour. I must be amped up. This is the first time I’ve felt as though I could participate as a volunteer in some way.

    Happy book dance here.

  5. This will be my first time, and I’m really anxious for it πŸ™‚ Reading all the love you all write makes me realize this is something really special, and I’m really glad I can be a part of it.

    Only some hours left πŸ™‚

    Have fun, everybody.

    Love from Portugal!

  6. Dewey would be so damned proud of the both of you for your absolutely tireless efforts to keep this going and turn it into this amazing world-wide event you should be very proud of yourselves….I’m very proud of both of you!

  7. This just makes me sad. Why? Because I can’t participate this year after all. First time since 2009 that I won’t be joining in. Wah. πŸ™ I have too much going on tomorrow so I just can’t swing it this year. I wanted to let you all know in case you might want to remove me from the linky. I don’t want anyone to have to take the time to cheer me on if I’m not going to be around. All this being said, you guys are awesome! Maybe I’ll be able to join in for the Spring one. Here’s hoping!

Good luck to everyone. Happy Reading!

  8. You and Heather ROCK!!! Thanks so much for everything. I’ll never stop missing Dewey, obviously. But I feel like you and Heather managed to resurrect her spirit here in what you’ve done with the read-a-thon. So yeah, more thanks. And lots of hugs.

  9. Wow — lovely, awesome post. I was unfamiliar with the history of this read-a-thon — and the real life Dewey — so thanks for sharing this. I’m even more excited to be participating this year. Grateful for the organizers and cheerleaders for creating this space!
