It’s hard to believe, but 6 months ago, at the onset of my first Dewey Read-A-Thon, I was barely involved in the online book community. I didn’t use Twitter, my blog was a basic thing I barely touched and only used for reviews with my friends. Then I discovered the 24-Hour Dewey Read-A-Thon and I fell down the proverbial rabbit-hole into a new world.
In a mere six months I have reached over 200 followers on Twitter. I have made my blog more visibly appealing for a more universal audience. I have received ARCs from publishers and authors. My world has changed as my perspective has been broadened and I am forever grateful to the Read-A-Thon for getting me started in this.
What has been the most amazing change these past six months has been the fact that I am actually socializing with others. I am a socially withdrawn person, but thanks to the Internet and the online Book Community, I am able to talk to strangers, get new ideas and perspectives, learn about new authors, and just socialize in general. The Internet can be a rough place but the Book Community has been nothing but supportive and I am encouraged to continue the tradition of kindness and am happy to be part of this community.
So, to the readers of this post, whether this is your first Read-A-Thon or your latest, whether you are active in the online Book Community or have never heard of it before, let us continue the tradition of being supportive and changing lives.
