Hour 19 – Shaking It Up

Welcome back, everyone! This is your co-host Elizabeth from Earl Grey Editing. It’s my last hour here and then I’ll be handing over to Kate from Kate’s Book Nook. She’ll be co-hosting for the remainder of the read-a-thon and always writes the most amazing posts, so I hope you’ll stick around.

This is the toughest part of the read-a-thon. It’s the middle of the night for North and South America. The morning’s just getting started for most of Europe and Africa. So it’s up to Asia and the Pacific to hold down the fort. If that’s where you live, take a moment to cheer on our friends struggling through in other parts of the world. A special shout-out to Brona of Brona’s Books for heading up #teamANZ. She really knows how to rally us together!

Whatever your timezone, chances are you’ve been reading a fair while by now. So it’s a good time to shake up the format of what you’re reading. Some people swear by comics. I tend to shift to romance novels. What’s your strategy?

Toast and tea, The Dream-Quest of Vellitt Boe, Kij Johnson, Earl Grey Editing, novella, Tor.com
Novellas are also a great option.

Anyway, that’s it from me! A big thank you to Andi for inviting me on board this year. She works tirelessly to run this read-a-thon every six months and is just amazing all around.

Happy reading, everyone.

Hour 19 – Reading Buddies

Hi everyone! This is your co-host Elizabeth from Earl Grey Editing. It’s mid-afternoon here in the east of Australia and Hour 19 is getting underway. This is about the time of the readathon I see a lot of names from the Antipodes on the Twitter hashtag keeping things lively. If that’s you, take a moment to cheer on our friends struggling through the wee hours in other parts of the world. A special shout-out to Brona of Brona’s Books for heading up #teamANZ2017. She really knows how to rally us together!

I promised to introduce you to my two helpers.

Hannah’s in the foreground and Chippa is in the background. They both cuddle with me at different points during a readathon–especially right now, as the weather is chilly in April. However, Chippa is more of a dedicated reading buddy than Hannah. Here he is keeping my sweetheart company for some reading time in the hammock.

Hour 19 – The Audio Hours!

FYI (15)

Helloooooo errrrbody!!!! This is Andi, and I’m tickled to be here with you. Heck, I’m tickled to still be awake! This hosting spot saves me every readathon.

Now I have a true story for you…

wrecked eyes

I did wreck these eyes reading. All. Day. Long. I think it’s time to switch to audio…Amy Poehler’s YES PLEASE! Have you embraced audio today? Honestly, I feel behind the curve on this one, but it’s the first time I’ve audio’ed for a Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon! I took it on a run with me this morning, and now I’m right back to it.

Have you indulged in audiobooks today? If not, what’s keeping your eyeballs glued to the page?

Hour 19 – Cute Bomb!

Hour 19 is upon us! We are positively FLYING through this readathon, y’all! This is Andi from Estella’s Revenge here to add a little perk to your event for the next two hours. How are we doing? Awake? Still reading?

coffee

While I don’t necessarily endorse coffee at this hour (don’t get the jitters!), I do endorse this GIF, soooo…

I also highly suggest cuteness in the late hours…

Now I really want to know…

  • When was the longest you’ve ever stayed awake during readathon?
  • What are the most books you’ve ever read during readathon?
  • What’s the most FUN you’ve ever had during readathon?

If the links below don’t work immediately, forgive us! Sometimes the permalinks we receive expire or need updating at the last moment. We’re on it!

Hour 19 – Truly Outrageous!

Hour 19! Hour 19! It’s Andi again, and I’m SO GLAD you’re still here!!!!

I have to admit something about myself…I’m an ’80s nostalgist, especially when it comes to cartoons of my childhood. No cartoon epitomizes your Readathon participation more than Jem and the Holograms, straight out of 1985! The tagline of the show was TRULY OUTRAGEOUS! I think you’re ALL truly outrageous for hanging on this long!

Now that we’ve had this little throwback moment together, get to reading!

Hour 19 – Tired Owl Put a Spell On You!

Andi from Estella’s Revenge back again! Let’s get real. Coffee, no coffee. Naps, no naps. Aren’t we all going to look like this guy when the Read-a-Thon is over? But he’s so cute! That’s consolation for us.

tiredowl

As sort of an aside, I’m a huge owl fan. I’ve had this guy on my Facebook page for a week or so now. Any other owl lovers out there? If so, here are 20 Fun Facts About Owls!

And since we’re all a little drowsy and since it’s getting close to Halloween, and since we all probably loved Hocus Pocus, let’s rock out with this “classic.”

You’re welcome! #earworm
