April 2010

Sign up for the April 10, 2010 Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-thon!

I can’t believe the read-a-thon is only two weeks away! Are you as excited as I am?! Since the read-a-thon is getting close, now’s the time to officially sign up if you plan on participating.

The  Read-a-thon will start: April 10th  at 5am Pacific (1pm GMT). You can click over to the start times page to check the starting time in your timezone. Remember that if it’s more convenient to you, you could  start either earlier or later, as well as participate for only part of the 24 hours. Very few people make it through the entire 24-hour period without sleeping, so don’t let that discourage you! Sleep is definitely allowed.

For more information on the Read-a-thon, you can read our FAQ. If you have a question that isn’t answered there, you can leave us a comment or e-mail DeweyReadathon at gmail. We’ll try to get back to you as soon as possible!

Sign ups for being a cheerleader will be posted in a few days.

We’ve already posted a Google Form for those interested in hosting a mini-challenge. If you’re new to the read-a-thon and are wondering what these mini-challenge things are, please check our FAQ!

Also, if you’d like to donate a prize, please e-mail us at DeweyReadathon at gmail. It’d be very much appreciated! Here’s a list of the prizes donated for the October 2009 Read-a-thon in case you’re wondering what to donate.

Another thing you can do: Grab a button from the FAQ page, display it proudly, and help us spread the word.

  1. Woohoo! I’m definitely going to try and stay awake as long as I can. Heck, I’m so used to waking up before 6 now I can even start at the right time, this year! (Unlike every other time I’ve done a readathon, lol.)

  2. I’m so excited to be officially signing up! I just discovered challenges and read-a-thons over my holiday break and I love giving them a try! Thanks!

  3. Well, I can only participate part-time this year as I have other commitments Sat morning, but I’ll be there for the afternoon and evening!

  4. This is our first read-a-thon and I can’t wait to do it! We probably won’t be able to do the entire 24 hours but we’re going to do our best!

  5. I’m already putting together my TBR list, as well as my food/drink menu! I had such a good time last fall and have been looking forward to April! Thanks for everything!

  6. So I’ve never done this before but learning about the Read-a-Thon has prompted me to start a blog (when close friends and family had no success. :)) I read 200+ books a year. When I got hit by a car last summer, I knew I was really feeling bad when I couldn’t even bring myself to get my book out of my purse in the ER. 😀

Is it okay for a brand-new blogger to join the Read-a-Thon? And one whose blog will probably not be a solely about books blog?

  7. Buffy, we LOVE when brand new bloggers participate in the readathon! And you could have a blog about the mating habits of earthworms, and we’d still love it if you participated. 🙂

  8. Whoa, I thought I was signing up early, but I’m already number 45!

Trish: There’s someone ELSE out there blogging about the mating habits of earthworms? I’m not alone? Seriously though, I may have written a post about that one time…

  9. Can I sign up to the read-a-thon even though I do not have a blog?? Coz the form doesn’t allow me to enter without a URL..

  10. Thank you Trish for the quick response.. I have a GoodReads account so I’ll use that one… Thanks againn!! I’m so excited, this will be my first time =)

  11. Really looking forward to another readathon. Not sure whether I will be able to do the whole thing (too many other things going on right now) but I love to have a set weekend to read so much 😉

  12. I’m excited about participating in my first 24-hour read-a-thon! I haven’t stayed up 24 hours since my freshman year of college nine years ago so I don’t know if I’ll make it the whole time, but I’m going to do my best! I’ve started planning my reading list.

  13. I am SO EXCITED about the ‘Thon! Went to the library today to help me get a bit more stacked and will probably make another trip or two in the next 2 weeks. Last year I made it the whole 24 hours (by some miracle) and this year I’ll hopefully make it 24 hours again. I’ll be gone at a retirement party for a couple of hours, but I’ll have audiobooks for the driving so I won’t miss out on too much!

Looking forward to my second Read a Thon and hoping to read lots and lots of books!

  14. Finally I can join in on one of these events. Usually I have guests but that weekend is clear.

I probably will start earlier as I am in the UK.

  15. This will be my wife and mine’s fifth read-a-thon in a row. This time, unfortunately due to a previous engagement we will not be able to read as long as normal.

    -Richard

  16. I’m sad I won’t be able to read during the daytime hours, but I’m thrilled to attend the first ever Empire State Book Festival that day. It will be wonderful to read before and after though!

  17. Yay! I am so excited to participate in my first read-a-thon! I’m not going to commit to reading for 24 hours straight, but I will do my best to read as much as possible that day!

  18. I’m so excited for this man. Last October was great – although I did it unofficially (just with livejournal friends). Woohoo!!

  19. Hi. Been away from the book bloggers groups for so long and just saw a link here on twitter. Thought this would be a great way to start reviewing and blogging again… and reading of course. Looking forward to it.

  20. Eeeee~ It’s my first ever Read-a-Thon, and I’m excited! XD Hopefully, I’ll finish all my other requirements before the 10th, so I can read in peace. 😉

    I am such a geek, I know, but gah! Excitement~ <3

  21. Super excited to do Read A Thon! Better get stack of books in order and stock up on snack food! Oh yeah and Coke…lot and lots of Coke. This is going to be fun!

  22. This will be my first read-a-thon and I’m very excited! I have a friend coming over and joining me so it will be extra fun. Thanks to everyone helping organise!

  23. This will be my first read-a-thon. I am excited and hope to finish one book and start another. I am looking forward to blogging, reading Tweets, and hourly polls and challenges. I will be in and out (I’m pregnant), but this sounds like a perfect day to relax and enjoy something for myself.

  24. I can only attend till about 3 pm pacific, when I have to leave for a book club meeting. I will come back from the meeting ready to read some more. 🙂

  25. For my Read-a-Thon I’m hoping to be sponsored to raise a little money for ADDISS http://www.addiss.co.uk/index.html – The National Attention Deficit Disorder Information and Support Service, any ideas on how I’d go about working out a sponsorship form… per 100 pages read, per hour of reading? What do people think would be the best idea?

  26. My first time participating, but I’m looking forward to it. I cannot read the whole 24 hours, I think my boyfriend will require me to get some sleep in between, but I’m going to try and participate as much as I can!

  27. Signed up and excited to participate. First time ever!

This will be a great addition to my blog as well. I just moved and am looking forward to getting into some book content.

  28. So excited for my second Readathon! My partner is going to do a movie marathon while I read, and she’ll be in charge of food and drink for the 24 hours of book time 🙂 Can’t wait to pull together my book pile!

  29. This sounds awesome! I can’t wait to start! I’ve got at least 4 books that I need to read and review so this will be a great way for me to catch up. I look forward to commenting on other people’s blog to see how everyone’s getting along. Good luck to you all!

  30. I’m changing blogs and I’ve signed up for the readathon with my olg blog: candletea. I’d like to change it to my new adress: irisonbooks.wordpress.com but I’m not sure if I can just add it to the mr. Linky. I don’t want to make people visit my old blog in vain, but I can’t delete my old link, maybe you could?

  31. I’ve watched the 24 Hour Readathon for years, and I’ve decided to take the plunge. What a wonderful way to remember Dewey. I miss her posts.

  32. This is perfect: a chance to catch up on some reading and to reboot my blog!

I also agree with Jill – this is just the perfect way to remember and honor Dewey.

  33. I’ve watched the last couple pass and thought it looked like fun. Since I’m free this time around, I thought I’d give it a try. I probably won’t go the 24 hours, though–just cram in whatever I can fit while I’m awake.

  34. I’m signing up. It’s my second readathon and I had so much fun on the last one. I think I may do an all YA readathon this time.

    Grace

  35. Eagerly anticipating this.

I’m thinking I’m going to put together a short list of books that are specifically set aside to read during the Read-a-Thon, for starters. My six-year-old and I have already by chose School of Fear by Gitty Daneshvari for one of the books we will read together then, and I think I might put aside an anthology of short stories, as they might be good things to take a break with now and then.

  36. First time participant here! So excited – I need this so I can make a dent in the huge pile of books I have checked out from the library!

  37. Very happy to have stumbled upon this read-a-thon…looking forward to it immensely! I haven’t stayed up reading a book all night long in awhile, but it’s an experience worth repeating time and again…now I just gotta find a worthy book.

  38. Sounds like fun…an excuse to do nothing but read for a whole day! I have to confess that I’ll be at work for a few hours, but I work at a library, so I hope that’s okay!

  39. Hey, is anyone going to create an event on the facebook for the upcoming read-a-thon??
    I’m just curious…

  40. Hi!
I put the wrong link in Mr. Linky. The first one is wrong. I was wondering if you could possibly take that one out. It’s of a widget on my sidebar. The second one is of my post about at Read-a-Thon. Thanks lots. Have a great day!

  41. I’m very excited to take part. This is my first time participating in what will hopefully be an annual commitment. Good luck everyone!

  42. This is my very first read-a-thon and I am so excited to be taking part! The number of books I own/borrow has gotten out of hand and this seems a great way to get some control over them (or so I delude myself).

  43. I participated last year and almost forgot to sign up for this year’s! but, here I am. I will be so thrilled to read on this day for Dewey.

  44. YAY im so glad to sign up i hope i make all 24 hours im only 13!!!!! I Love READING!!!! IM so glad to stay up with yall just reading!!!!

  45. Lets hope that this works cause i’m running right above “E” right now with my brain. I came downstairs for something to drink and then end up getting involved in this. lol.

  46. i am sooo entering this!!!

hopefully it will help my tbr pile to dwindle a little!!!

i will have to work out the aussie times that go with this challenge.

  47. Oh my goodness! What have I done????? This should be an interesting venture…..heck …it’s obviously the year of -athons…may as well be a read-athon!

  48. Wow it seems like only a month has gone by since the last one; this crept up so fast! April 10th!! Gotta do better than last time 😀

  49. I can’t wait! I’ve been stockpiling books and planning the snacks. I’ve participated in two read-a-thon’s but circumstances have always conspired to keep me from the full experience. This time will be different.

  50. So, this is my first read-a-thon! Excited! I spend way too much of my time writing and not enough reading. My friend Amanda from The Zen Leaf told me about it, and it sounds like a lot of fun.

    ^_^

  51. This will be my first Read-a-Thon. Local start time is 7pm so I’ll try to get some rest/sleep during the day — at least reading through the night won’t be so darn hot! I’ve got a nice variety of books picked out and am going to try for the full 24 hours. Since I don’t have an Internet connection at home, I’ll keep a log and post a wrap-up article on Monday….

  52. I am such an idiot! I’ve been talking and tweeting about #readathon for months now, and yet I almost forgot to sign up! lol

I can not wait for Saturday! This will be the second readathon for me, but unlike last time, I can devote the whole 24 hours to reading and challenges. A huge thanks to everyone involved keeping this event going, it makes my inner and outer book nerd happier than I can ever express!

  53. This sounds like fun! I can’t wait. I love doing fun little things like this. I can totally read and blog for 24 hours. This should take a good chunk out of my “to read” pile!

  54. This will be my sixth Read-a-Thon but the first one since cataract surgery plus new prescription eye-glasses significantly lessened my visual impairment. I’d had the surgery before last October but didn’t get the glasses until the week after the read-a-thon.

I’m also to host a mini-challenge again this year with my crochet bookmarks as prizes. So excited!!!

    Read in joy

  55. Oh my gosh! OK, I’m finally going to do it! I’ve got a pretty good stack of library books on hand, and plenty of been-meaning-to-reads on the shelves…but I might need to make a last minute run to the bookstore!

  56. Wonderful to know that April has arrived and it is time for the spring Dewey’s Read-a-thon! Can’t wait for the weekend! Looking forward to it!

  57. It looks like I’ll be a part time readathoner this time. I have some plans for Sat. night, but plan to read all day Sat. and most of the day Sunday.

  58. Looking forward to participating in my first read-a-thon, in honor of which I launched my blog (half dressed and with mismatched shoes though it is).

  59. This will by my first time with a read-a-thon, and I don’t know if I’m going to be able to do the full 24 hours, but I’m going to give it my best shot!! =)

  60. Well, I really wasn’t going to join since I value sleep more than anything (besides reading!), but what the heck?! I’ll do what I can and join in the fun! 🙂

  61. Well, I waited until the last minute because I didn’t know for sure that I’d be able to participate. But, everything is falling into place. One lesson I learned from last fall is that it is helpful to have a blog/posting template all ready so that I spend less time creating the blog progress reports and more time actually READING! I mean, after all, isn’t that what it’s all about?

  62. I just found out about this challenge (thanks Twitter)! Since I love to read, I decided to join up with everyone else. Now I have to figure out what I’m going to read tomorrow…so many choices…

  63. Signing up last minute – never done this before, but I figure it will be a good way to get through my book stash!

  64. How cool is this! I was getting ready to head to the library, so I’ll just pick up more than planned … and I have plenty on my To Be Read stack as it is. And snacks, can’t forget snacks: chips, salsa, popcorn, Coke, and sunflower seeds. Hoping I’ll get some good hammock time in. Must remember to update iPod. Must make list; this is getting complicated!

  65. Just wondering, is it enough if I just add myself up here to represent a formal sign off. Also does it start at 8:00 AM EST on April 10th

2010. Sorry, this is my first and I am so unprepared and nervous!!

  66. Ok I signed up I hope I’m not too late. I’ll read and update as much as I can. I won’t be able to do a whole 24 hour though.

  67. My first read-a-thon & I haven’t actually done a bit of prep-work. But there’s still tonight to do that, right? I’m looking forward to taking part, even if I may not be able to hang for 24 hours 🙂

  68. Oh, okay. Resistance really is futile… I know I need to get some other things done tomorrow, but what the heck. I have an iPod and can listen to some books when it’s inconvenient to be sitting still…

  69. I’m signing up VERY last minute, I know, but I only just found out about this late last night! I’m excited about participating and can’t wait to get reading!

  70. Ok…. ignore #372. This is what happens at 5 am when you go to make your starting post and then I linked it to the wrong post. GAH!

Wandering aimlessly now with coffee cup in hand to the correct post….

    🙂

  71. This is my first readathon, but I wanted to do one for so long.
I will probably be reading a lot of Japanese books though, as I don’t have access to cheap English language books here on my study abroad in Tokyo. Luckily my university’s library has some English language books, and has extended its weekend opening hours. 😛

  72. Woah, super late sign up here! :O Oh well, this looks like a lot of fun, and it will be my first readathon ever. And I’ve got a massive stack of books to take down today. Better get started! 😀

  73. Realized late that I am going to be alone for the next 24 hours. I decided a great way to pass the time would be to participate. My tbr is grateful!

  74. It is a simple game that involves songs and video clip.

These were some of the top rated apps, which you simply must check out.
In reality, spending cash on new hardware is not some thing that arrives off as cheap.
