Hour 8 – 33.3% There

It’s Hour Eight and we are approaching the 33.3% mark for the readathon. Hi, I’m Deb Nance at Readerbuzz and I’m happy to be your host for this hour.

To urge you on, let me share some stats about the average reader:

*Over 1/4 of all American adults didn’t read a single book last year.

*Most readers don’t get past page 18 in a book they have purchased.

Those were pretty surprising statistics to me. And you are definitely doing better than that, right?

Finally, let me paraphrase author Gore Vidal: “Half the American people don’t read….Half have never voted for president. One hopes it is the same half.”

Good luck! See you on down the road.

  1. The person who collected data for that statistic probably visited my house where I have hundreds of books in my TBR pile, completely unopened.

  2. Saw your stack. You’re the only person I know who has more books TBR than me! Glad you’re hosting. Have only read for about a half hour today…busy busy.

  3. There’s a saying about the town I grew up in: “Half of them can’t read, and half of them can’t write, and half of them can’t do either…”
