Hour 4

I always have reading companions. What about you? Do you have cute reading companions? Kids? Hubbies? Wiffeys? Kittehs? Pups? Lizards? Tell us about ’em. Hopefully they’re not tempting you to sleep!

Wysteria Wynk, a cute reading buddy!

Also, you guys phoenicis needs some help determining what language an inscription in her book is, and what it says, so if you’ve got some extra time (she thinks it’s a language of Scandinavian persuasion) head over and see if you can help out!
Well, this is my last hour with you. I’m handing it off to Young1, and this is her first time cohosting, so give her some love, will ya? It’s been great hangin’ out with you guys! Keep up the awesome reading!

  1. Reading with daughter, Toto, 12 years old! And we are letting the kitty cat join us any second, but she will probably make me crazy, so I’m not sure how long that will last! πŸ™‚

  2. I don’t have any reading companions. I have the attention span of a goldfish so if I have anything around me, I am sure to stop my reading. Just having Twitter up is a bad enough distraction. lol

  3. Thanks for hosting! I’ve got Nico the cat keeping me company off and on this morning. She was definitely making me sleepy with her warm coziness at 6:15 a.m.! I’m off to check out the challenge!

  4. Cute kitty! My weimaraner, Wiki, is my reading buddy. She has her cuddly moments, but I think she mostly wishes she was my ball-playing buddy instead.

  5. My constant reading companion today is/will be my cat, Jesse. The other two cats, Vilandra & Ava, will probably tag team throughout the day.

  6. I am reading with my dog. He is sleeping right now, but he is still great company!! So patient with me when I am in the middle of a good book.

  7. My reading companion is my 2yo daughter. She has been sitting in my lap the last hour while I read to her.

  8. My reading companion is my dog Kirby. He’s not a lap dog but he hangs out in the same room. Technically he naps in the same room. I think he’s just teasing me saying something like ‘hehe, you won’t be doing this for another 21 hours!’.

  9. Hi everyone,

The mystery of the inscription has been solved (thanks to Monica and her boyfriend)! It says “To Per, in memory of a wonderful time in California.”

Still after the name of the writer, if anyone can make it out. =)

  10. My housemate’s cat won’t leave me alone. I suppose I should be glad she’s not tempting me to sleep. My own little darling birdies could care less what’s going on out here. πŸ™‚

  11. I’ve got two reading companions today, Jack and Jill, my Jack Russell Terriers. They’re cute, but man they sleep a lot for terriers, the rest of the time they’re bouncing off the walls of course. =]

  12. My son, Trent is currently my reading companion! He’s not actually reading (still trying to get him to crack open a book!) but he is keeping me thoroughly entertained and somewhat distracted!

Oh and I cannot forget my insane kitteh Mr. Lester-Cat! He’s been running up and down the hall making as much noise as he can!

  13. My reading companions are my cats — one of which won’t stop drinking from my water glass every time I turn my back on it. Ick. But, oh well, a little cat slobber never killed anyone, right? …Right? XD

  14. My kitteh usually reads with me, but I believe it is a little too early in the day for him. I expect he’ll come around later in the evening…

  15. Unfortunately no reading companions here, although my Grandmother is popping her head in and out.

  16. My dog Carlo, a Large MΓΌnsterlΓ€nder is my reading buddy. He’s currently basking in the sun. I’m also on chat with my friends Julia and Anna, although they’re currently not there.

  17. Oh do I have reading companions! I have my dogs, Cooper and Jake. Then I have our 3 cats, Sadie, Mr. Sophie, and Sam. Also on hand is my Mom’s basset hound, Lucy. Also the neighbors cat is sitting outside my livingroom window. I have many reading buddies!

  18. I have a kitteh who’s supposed to be my reading companion, but she’s ditched me for a nice roll on the patio table, which gets roasty toasty in the late morning sun. Now I’ve just got my Cherry Coke Zero and some Mac ‘n Cheese to keep me company.

  19. My reading buddies were making me sleepy last hour! I have two cats who were both napping on me (one of whom kept trying to sleep on my book) and a my husband is napping on the couch. Chewing gum to keep me awake!

  20. I’ve got two screamy, screamy budgies as my reading companions today. They’re molting this week and are in *terrible* moods, picking on each other and whining about how their new feathers itch. πŸ˜‰

  21. I guess my coworkers are kind of reading companions at the moment. Starting out this read-a-thon at work has made things a bit more difficult then I’d like, but I’m still enjoying the reading!

  22. I like to read alone….but sadly, it doesn’t always happen! The worst is the cat–I can’t stand trying to balance a book on her back when she’s on my lap–she just won’t stay still.

  23. My reading friends include:
    1. Sam my 15 year old son.

2.Dodger the cat who looks like the cat in the picture at the top of this post and who keeps trying to steal my chair!

3.Molly–our cuddly little dog who is in heaven that we are just sitting around all day!
(pictures to come in a later post)

  24. My “companions” (more like saboteurs) are my animal ZooCrew: dog Zook, cats Fancy, Momma, Simon, Delilah, and Shotsie, Odie the lovebird and Eleanor the turtle (I know, I should have named her Myrtle the Turtle).

  25. Right now my husband and son have been keeping me company. I am sure before the day is up, my cat Frankie will be curled up in my lap! (I also have a stuffed animal – a bookworm – that my kids gave me :-> )

  26. I have this pillow in the shape of a hotdog that I’ve had since I was a kid. I love it because it’s the perfect shape to hug (or imagine this pose: put your head on one end, your legs hugging the other end, your book balanced on the middle!), and because its pillowcase is made of my favorite cloth material (I’m not sure what it’s called though!) which I just love to play with because of its texture! πŸ™‚ It makes me a bit sleepy while reading, but its the most comfortable reading position I know. πŸ™‚

  27. Two shih tsu’s are my reading companions but I use the term loosely…. one is 14 and one is 11 and they could care less if I was reading or dancing through the house in my pajamas to some blasting 80’s tune…. (errr…. not that I have ever done that….)

The only time they are interested is when there is food involved! πŸ™‚

    Happy hour four!

  28. My reading companions are my two cats – Phoebe and Princess Saffy. They have been in the garden with me, on my lap, and generally cheering me on (they love it when I sit around reading, as they get to chill with me). Love ’em!

    Happy reading everyone! πŸ™‚

  29. My youngest cat has been my constant reading companion this morning. She keeps coming over and meowing at me to make sure I am still fully awake and then demands a pet.

  30. I have right now David ‘Tenny’ Bear (my David Tennant ’10th Doctor’ teddy bear) and Mr. Bearie my Teddy Bear from childhood keeping me company! Though Appa from Avatar the Last Airbender is looking like he wants to jump in and Jack Raidou from Shin Megami Tensei Raidou Kuzonoha vs. King Abaddon wants to jump in as well…

  31. I’m at my parents’ house, so they are sort of my reading buddies. And there are their two dogs, who are very hyper, so I’m not likely to fall asleep with them around, though they can be a bit distracting.

  32. This is actually my first read-a-thon without companions! I miss my pets ever so much. Next time, I’m keeping my wee doggie close by my side for the full twenty-four hours.

  33. No reading companions for me unless you count my little stuffed pillbug I sometimes use as a pillow. I’ve got a friend coming by later today to spend the night, though, because his plumbing is out. I told him to bring a book because I’m not stopping to be a decent host.
