Hour 3 – We’ve Only Just Begun

FYI (3)

Welcome to Hour 2 ladies and gents, it’s Fay from Blog A Book Etc and I am really looking forward to getting through these next couple of hours with you all. Before we crack on I just wanted to say a massive thank you for having me again as your co-host once again, now let’s get on with it!

I always start a read-a-thon with the idea that I am going to clear a large pile of books out of my TBR pile. However as the world continues on a 7 day basis now I am rarely that chilled that I can spend the entire day with my head in a book, feet up and tea in hand.

TBR Pile

My remedy for this is of course, AUDIBLE. If you have not tried it yet peeps then seriously you need to at least think about it. I have always been an avid believer that the written word is something that shouldn’t be taken for granted and I am still a great lover of that amazing new and old book smell. However on the go audio books really do give you that extra bit of happiness. The feeling of being able to listen to your current read and still get jobs done – why not?! Just don’t forget that sometimes you need to ditch the tech and pick up some pages.

Today however apart from cheering you beauties on I will be snuggled up at home with my other half catching up on paperwork and switching between an audiobook and a paperback in the effort to get close to the end of at least one of them.

I do hope you will join me and take five just for you and your book, even if it is an extra long loo break. Get it done guys!

  1. I wish! I can’t do audio books. I’ve never been able to follow along when someone reads aloud to me. I can’t even follow hubby reading a catalogue description, let alone whole books. Which is a shame, because I have farm chores that still need to be done and kids who still think they should be fed.

  2. I always try to find books I’m reading on audio through the NYPL on OverDrive. That way I can read them faster and it helps me to stay focused. Today I already listened to parts of 2 audiobooks. 🙂

  3. So … I signed up weeks ago. I’ve been planning participation for a long time. And just noticed that I’m not on the list of participants. What can I do? Besides just read anyway.

  4. I love audios and that is what I am listening to right now for this read-a-thon. They are great for when I need to do a bit of cleaning and can’t sit down and read. 🙂

  5. I also signed up a while ago, even got an confirmation email saying I signed up … but my name isn’t in the list of participants. Why?

  6. I can’t seem to do audio books.. I can barely do podcasts (and there’s only a few I listen to) but with a book, I can’t be doing anything else or else I lose track of what’s going on in the story!

  7. I’m not on the list of participants, either. Any idea if that can be remedied? When I signed up, I didn’t supply my blog address, just my twitter handle and email. (My blog is about baking bread, so I didn’t think it was apropos to this .)

  8. I love audiobooks! I have a 30-40 minute commute to work each way, and my audible or books on CD are the only way I survive! It reminds me of the feeling of being read to a a child. 🙂

  9. I have one audiobook on my TBR! It is CDs, unfortunately; but that just means I need to take a ride around the country for awhile! My husband and I love to listen to audiobooks when we visit his parents (9-hour drive one way.) It really breaks up the time, and gets me really into some books.

  10. Agreed! For the first time ever, I got audiobook versions of physical books on my TBR pile. Especially the long ones. I get through them a lot faster. Right now I’m listening to audiobook CDs on my stereo (The Art of Fielding) while putting away laundry. It makes this whole day feel freer and not so intense and pressure-filled.

  11. That is a long drive and perfect time for audio books! I bet you have been through some great ones x

  12. I used to commute for 45mins to an hour which was perfect but now it is 15minutes so I leave early and take a slow walk to the station so I can listen to a bit more! I used to love being read stories x

  13. I don’t think people with twitter handles were added, but just in case I am wrong please get in touch with @EstellasRevenge and she will sort you out. Sorry for the late reply x

  14. I don’t listen to Podcasts and never used to like audiobooks but found that whilst i’m on a night shift at work I can get through some meaty chunks! I need to get my concentration levels back up because lately I find it very easy to lose concentration! x

  15. Sorry for the late reply hun, it is never too late to join in! Welcome and keep us updated on the twitter account @readathon xx

  16. Sorry for the late reply if you get in touch with Andi @EstellasRevenge on twitter she will sort you out x

  17. That is exactly what I do! So good for running errands too! I forgot my headphones earlier so had to do without! Have a good reading/listening day x

  18. Sorry for the late reply. Carry on reading and get in touch with Andi @EstellasRevenge on twitter and she will sort you out x

  19. Hahaaa I love it! Kids who think they should be fed!!!
Have you ever tried putting them on whilst in the bath in short bursts to get used to it, that’s how I broke myself into Audible x

  20. That’s two people that have reminded me I need to hang out the laundry! Sounds like you really are on top of your reading today! x
