Hour 23 – A Gold Hoop

FYI (25)

Welcome to Hour 23!!! This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook. I will be your co-host for the last 2 hours. If you are just rejoining us for the remain couple of hours, I would like to say “Welcome back!” You have been missed.

I would like to take a moment to thank the wonderful hosts of this event, Andi and Heather. These are two of the most amazing people in the history. They spend nearly the full year planning the event for us and taking care of things that occurred after the last event (like survey results and prizes). Without all their hard work, this event wouldn’t be half the one it is. Thank you, ladies. We all owe you so much!

Random Shakespeare Fact of the Hour

Anyone who has ever made these late night hours knows that I love to include random facts of the hour. So here is the Shakespeare fact of the hour:

Our notion of William Shakespeare’s appearance comes from several 17th-century portraits that may or may not have been painted while the Bard himself sat behind the canvas. In one of the most famous depictions, known as the Chandos portrait after its onetime owner, the subject has a full beard, a receding hairline, loosened shirt-ties and a shiny gold hoop dangling from his left ear. Even back in Shakespeare’s time, earrings on men were trendy hallmarks of a bohemian lifestyle, as evidenced by images of other Elizabethan artists. The fashion may have been inspired by sailors, who sported a single gold earring to cover funeral costs in case they died at sea.

  1. Because the comment section isn’t work on the challenge page, I am going to leve my
response here. Please let me know when it is working so I can update if I have to.

Open the covers and you will see,

More wonders than you thought could be.

    With every word and line,

    In no amount of time,

Into another world you will be set free.

  2. I wrote a limerick, but I live in th U.S., so I’m posting it here.

If your movie is based on a book,
I refuse to hazard a look.
    First to the bookstore,
I’ll read it, Tis no chore,
Then protest the liberties you took.

  3. The readathon – a bonbon
    Of my time in London!
    I read a bit
    And then I sleep
    Because I didn’t bring a condom!:)))

    Sorry, too tired.

  4. Literary Limerick Challenge
    “The Passage” I’ve finally read.
And now I am eager for bed!
When my head I lay down
I will smile and not frown
Close my eyes and then sleep like the dead!

  5. The comment is not working on the blog so here is my entry of an attempt at a limerick.

Off in a book you will go,
To meet a friend or fight a foe,
    You’ll discover so many places,
    Hidden within the spaces
    Of every book you know.

  6. Here is my Limerick because I can’t comment on the post…

I love to sit in a comfy nook,
With all of my favourite fantastical books,
And don’t forget a hot cup of tea,
You might also need a break to pee,
Choose a book with an almighty hook.

  7. Commenting here as well, since it’s not working properly 🙂

    I can the zombies slay
I can run like the prey
I curl up with my books
    And forget about the looks
That’s what I do when the world is grey

  8. the book is a real thriller
about a FBI girl and a man killer

    the two ends up teaming
and a lot is not what its seeming

    she investigates furiously
and he has a phd in psychology

let med know if the lambs stops screaming

  9. Interesting fact. I love history! I didn’t know about the earring wearing pirate trend. A funeral expense. Makes sense. Great fact!
