Hour 23 – ALMOST THERE!!!!!!

Welcome to Hour 23!!! This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook. I will be your co-host for the last 2 hours. If you are just rejoining us for the remain couple of hours, I would like to say “Welcome back!” You have been missed.

Anyone else a bit surprised by some of those books in the infographic above? Or at least in the order in which they appear?

I would like to take a moment to thank the wonderful hosts of this event, Andi and Heather. These are two of the most amazing people in the history. They spend nearly the full year planning the event for us and taking care of things that occured after the last event (like survey results and prizes). Without all their hard work, this event wouldn’t be half the one it is. Thank you, ladies. We all owe you so much!

Random Facts of the Hour

Anyone who has ever made these late night hours knows that I love to include random facts of the hour. So here are a couple random facts for this hour:

  • Ray Bradbury, author of Fahrenheit 451, was a descendant of one of the Salem witches. Bradbury was descended from Mary Perkins Bradbury, who was sentenced to be hanged in 1692 but managed to escape before her execution could take place.
  • The earliest recorded use of ‘wicked’ to mean ‘cool, good’ is from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s first novel, This Side of Paradise. The source for this is theOxford English Dictionary, but of course there may be an earlier instance of the word which is yet to be discovered. Fitzgerald’s first novel also provides us with the first known uses of the words ‘T-shirt’ and ‘daiquiri.’
  • Aristophanes’ play Assemblywomen contains the longest word in Greek. It has 171 letters and is the name of a fictional food dish. It is: Lopadotemachoselachogaleokranioleipsanodrimhypotrimmatosilphioparaomelitokatakechymenokichlepikossyphophattoperisteralektryonoptekephalliokigklopeleiolagoiosiraiobaphetraganopterygon.
