Hour 21 – Changes

This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook and I will be your cohost for the rest of the readathon! I like to do things a bit different during my hours as co-host. It tends to be the slowest hours, so I like to bring in a little fun. And this year, I am doing it even more different than normal.

If you want to learn a little about me, you can read this post from the last readathon.  Since the last readathon, my life has gone through a lot of changes. I got a promotion at work and moved to a new city, away from my family and got my first apartment by myself. I started studying to take the CPA Exam. Germany won the World Cup and I just about died of happiness. I got a pet fish named Jorge (pronounced like George… named after my sister Jo). My whole life feels like it is up in the air.

Now that you know a little bit more about me, I would love to know a little more about you! So please leave a comment and tell me some of your quirks and what makes you unique.

A big shout out to our cheerleaders!!! You guys have been fantastic! Next time we should have cheerleaders for our cheerleaders! But in all seriousness, thanks so much for cheering all of us readers on and cohosts on. You give us the strength to push past the weariness and keep reading! Goodness knows how much a “new comment” notice brightens up a persons day.

Video of the Hour:

Meet Kid President. I hope you like him because I will be playing several of his videos throughout the rest of the readathon. To start it all off, here is a little pep talk for you all.

  1. I have a few quirks, just ask my wife, she’ll tell ya all of them. One of my quirks is that if I’m sitting I hate having my feet on the floor unless it’s absolutely unavoidable. Another quirk of mine is that I become obsessive over things quickly, and then just as quickly I can lose those obsessions.
I know there’s more, but it’s 5 AM and I’m running on 3 hours sleep and haven’t napped yet. I’m gonna grab some coffee.
What makes me unique is that I’m a second generation lesbian. That means that my mom is a lesbian and so am I. I know that there’s a few of us out there, but it’s not that common.

  2. Congrats on the awesome World Cup win! Germany was impressive. Hmm, quirks. I never liked sports growing up but became a die hard, rabid soccer fan as an adult. (My husband took the month of the World Cup off from work, that’s how soccer crazed we are in our household.) We’re currently in an uproar at my house as my husband’s team stole my team’s coach! The nerve! I consider myself both a Jersey girl and a Texan but consider England my second home. I love being an aunt but have no desire to have my own children. Yep, I’m quirky.

  3. Wow, that is unusual (all your quirks, but especially the bit about being second generation lesbian).

I love finding out peoples quirks. Mainly I just love humans. We are all so different and so wonderful (well, not everyone is wonderful) and it is so fun figuring out what makes other people tick. My feet rarely touch the floor when I sit, but mainly that is because I am short and my feet rarely reach the ground if I am sitting all the way back. hahaha.

  4. I love soccer! If I could have, I would have taken the whole world cup off work. My goal is to save enough vacation days so that next world cup, I can. I wish they were coming to America because I would legitimately follow Germany around. I am not ashamed to admit that. hahaha

Can I ask who your teams are (yours and your husbands?)

  5. @Dwayna – hmmmm, I don’t know, to tell you the truth. I think there are pros and cons to both formats. I love the beauty of the hardcover, and the fact that it is harder to destroy. But the paperback is lighter and my wrists are pretty weak, so I appreciate that. What makes you prefer the paperback to the hardcover?

  6. You already know a piece of me. :/ Other than that, I’m a long letter pen pal. Though my pals haven’t been getting a lot of letters lately. When I say long letters, I mean 15+ typed pages. I love to get to know my pals and be really close to them. Um, let’s see what else. I lived in Central FL for 22 years and had gone to WDW hundreds and hundreds, possible thousands of times. 🙂 We moved to NC 2 1/2 years ago and except the parks, I don’t miss FL at all. I’m definitely a cool/cold weather person.

Hope you have a great last few hours!

  7. Hey, no shame in that! Mine is the Houston Dynamo and my husband’s is the San Jose Earthquakes. In England he supports Hartlepool United (his hometown) and I support Liverpool. But MLS is really where my passion is. It kind of amazes me how much I care and am into it. My family thinks I’m nuts.

  8. @Jenn – I have to admit that I am not as familiar with the MLS set up as I should be. The town I currently live in (Sacramento, CA) is making a push to get one of the new MLS teams that will be introduced. The push is crazy up here and it is fun getting caught up in the excitement. I have been to a San Jose Quakes vs LA Galaxy game once. That was a lot of fun. And then in June, I went to the Bayern Munich vs MLS All Stars game in Portland. SO MUCH FUN!

  9. I lived in Raleigh for like three months straight out of college (Okay, it was actually Wake Forest). Unfortunately, it was impossible to find a job and I had to move back home. But I loved it over there.

  10. Oh the Quakes Galaxy games are fun! It’s an awesome rivalry. I lived in Northern CA a few years ago and the Quakes games are what made me a soccer fan. The Quakes are opening their new stadium next year and we’re really hoping to come out for it. I’ve got to see MLS really grow back from 2000 when I first started going to games and it’s been really fun. I know Sacramento is really pushing for a team as is San Antonio. Either one would make a great rivalry which is always good fun!

  11. @Jenn – I think that the MLS is letting in two more teams. I know that they mention Orlando in a lot of articles. But Sacramento is getting a little confident in their ability to be accepted. hahaha

  12. MLS is getting two new teams this year (Another in NY and one in Orlando) then one in GA I think in 2016, one to come in Miami (Beckham’s team) and one to wherever wins it. My little league has gotten quite big. 🙂

  13. Maybe it is the Miami spot they are hoping to steal. I know one of the Florida spots is having trouble getting permits for a downtown stadium and Sacramento is hoping to steal their spot due to this.
