Hour 1

EEE!!! I’m so excited that the read-a-thon is finally here! Are you ready? Do you have your snacks prepared? Your potential books picked out?

Your host for the next four hours is Trish, and Bethany will co-host for two hours, and then Shesten will take over for her. For the next 4 hours, I (Trish) will be typing up the hosts, and Bethany or Shesten will be checking Twitter, checking in with readers, making sure I don’t screw up, and being generally awesome. It’ll be so much fun! :D

Make sure you check out the Welcome post! It will give you a lot of information that you’ll need. Even if you’ve read it before, you might want to read it again…I mention some new buttons!

Our first mini-challenge for you is the Hour 1 meme that Darcy wrote up quite a few read-a-thons ago. I’d alter it but I’m all about traditions, man!

Where are you reading from today?

3 facts about me …

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?

If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, Any advice for people doing this for the first time?

Come back and sign the Mr. Linky below and we’ll draw 5 winners randomly. Each winner gets a book prize pack, and the first winner will also get the chocolate monkey you see on the right. Again, it’s tradition!

This will be open for two full hours, so no rush!

Have fun and let the reading begin!

  1. This is my first time, so I am just trying to figure out what I need to do. I started reading Making Toast by Roger Rosenblatt and it’s pretty good so far. Sitting in front of my kerosene heater and keeping warm!

  2. I’m already having SO much fun reading! Her Fearful Symmetry (Audrey Niffenegger) is a great readathon book 🙂

Wishing all participants loads of fun & millions of thanks to the faithful hosts & challengers!

  3. Just getting ready to pick up my first book now that I have some coffee in me. “Corked” is first on my list. Big BIG thanks to all hosts and cheerleaders!

  4. Yep. Only read 36 pages in the first hour, but I made a couple of posts to my blog, including this meme. I still have a little bit of prep to do to be able to settle down to *serious* reading.

  5. I just left a link to my 1st post- I didn’t see the Hour 1 post until after I’d already read it. For some reason, none of today’s posts are showing up in my Google Reader. Seriously, Google Reader?? Today is not the day to malfunction! (My apologies if it turns out to be user error and not Google Reader error!)

  6. I posted a list but I have well over 250 books within arms length, so things may change, First book, in honour of Fi is Haiku In English followed by “Cold Mountain” – Hanshan
I am an anachronist, an autodidact PhD & I’m drinking Tazo tea.

3 books minimum for today, but the more I can read the better. 😀 Mostly I just want to pace myself well!

  11. I know I’m REALLY late, stuff happened this morning that prevented me from starting on time, but I still wanted to add my link.

  12. I was working for the first four and a half hours of the readathon so have joined this quite late but I thought I’d add my intro anyway. 🙂
