October 2013, readathon

Cheerleading Sign Ups (closed)

Gimme a Y. Gimme a O. Gimme a U! What’s that spell? YOU! Cheerleading for US! Woot! Remember, the cheerleaders are JUST as important as the players! So grab those pompoms, write out your best cheers, and join us for some cheering this October 12th.

What does it mean to be a cheerleader for Dewey’s Read-a-thon?

It means having a great time while encouraging others by leaving a cheer or rhyme on their blog.

You can read and cheer, in fact we encourage it!

Anyone can sign-up to be a cheerleader! There are some who solely devote their time to cheering but many readers enjoy cheering. Most readers will take an hour or two to go around and encourage other readers. While reading is the main focus of the read-a-thon it’s the interactions and connections you make that make the event so special.

How much time do I need to devote?

You can devote as much as 12 hours to as little as an hour. It’s whatever works best for your schedule!

How does this work?

There will be hundreds of readers to visit during the Read-A-Thon but don’t fret you do not have to cheer for them all. Just a few days before the event you will be assigned a cheering squad based on the number of hours you said you could cheer. Each squad is then assigned a group of readers but you can ofcourse cheer for those listed in the other squads!

Hip Hip Hooray!~ Now what you say?

Sign up below using the Google form to volunteer as a cheerleader. Still confused or don’t know much about cheering visit  the Cheer HeadQuarters

New This Year:

Team Captains. Having a co-host lead the cheerleaders was an EYE OPENING experience. We learned just how crazy-making it can be! SO. If you are willing to help out as a Team Captain (this is basically helping with the cheer website cleaning up broken links, taking out non-participant links, and helping cheerleaders find their way) we would appreciate it SO MUCH. And if you are willing to lead the whole thing, by all means, EMAIL US. It is hella hard co-hosting and cheerlead leading both together, lemmetellya.

  1. I cheered for the first time in the last read-a-thon and it was tons of fun, a great way to take a break from actually reading. 🙂 can’t wait for this one.

  2. I am going to give cheerleading a whirl for a couple of hours this October. Wish I could stay up all night reading but I have some health issues which would prevent that. That being said, if I enjoy participating this time, maybe next time I will do more. Thanks for the opportunity.

  3. Okay, don’t know if that last post went through. Please delete that one. Just wanted to say that I was helping out with cheerleading this October–thanks!

  4. Signed up! Ha! Not too late this time! I’m on Amsterdam-time, so my readathon starts at 15:00(3pm), I’m usually comically exhausted when it’s just night there (coffee grinds directly into mug? ;-)), but awake again when people in the US are hitting a wall! Thought that might be useful =)

  5. I didn’t want to sign before being positively sure I would be available that day… Hope I’m not too late!

  7. Where are the cheering assignments? I don’t see it on here or on the cheering site, I received my team but not our team assignment.
