April 2014 READER Sign-Ups!

Helloooooooooooooooo, everybody! Today is the day! Reader sign-ups are here, and we are so excited you’re joining us for the April 26, 2014 Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon!

Watch Andi’s video with some additional info. See what we’ve tweaked this time around and why we cut off the deadline to be cheered FOR a little early (Wednesday, April 23).

  1. Great idea for the Cheerleaders! I understand exactly what Heather goes through as I was in charge of Cheerleaders for Armchair BEA last year and will be again this year. It is a hard job! Especially when there are not a lot of cheerleaders compared to participants. Thanks to both of you for working so hard to give us a great readathon! <3

  2. Thanks, Becca! We always have an influx of people sign up on the last day (in excess of 75 usually), and it’s maddening to have Heather working her patoot off! Hopefully these new measures will help!

  3. As a fan of the Dewey Readathon I just want to say a HUGE thank you to Heather and Andi for all of your hard work. I look forward to this every October and April and it wouldn’t be here without you guys!

  4. This will be my second year participating – I had a blast last year! πŸ™‚ The April event is scheduled at the perfect time for me, just after university exams and final papers are finished. I can’t wait!!

  5. We were only discussing you all the other day and wondering which weekend would be the next one. It makes for some great mother /daughter bonding time:-)
    good luck to everyone participating.

  6. You rock! I love this, and thanks for the comprehensive overview, Andi! I think it helps let us all know some of the behind-the-scenes info that we may take for granted by accident.

You guys all rock and I’m excited for the read-a-thon!

  7. I am very much looking forward to this! In the calendar and ready to go – will have to make a to do list soon!

  8. Yay! The Read-a-Thon is a blast! I have a meeting that day, but rest assured I will be reading or cheering every cotton pickin’ minute I’m free.

Love the changes to cheerleading, too. I only use a blog, so I always feel I waste a lot of time clicking on links only to find it’s Twitter or Tumblir. Andi and Heather, you do an INCREDIBLE job organizing this – thank you!

  9. I just had a thought.
What do you think about creating a Goodreads group for all of us that don’t have a blog address, Twitter address, YouTube channel, or Tumblr?

  10. The site looks awesome! And I so hope that this new submission form helps cut down on some of you all’s work! Your hard work, you dedication, your enthusiasm–all of it is so appreciated! And I hope you know that. πŸ™‚

  11. Iluzlja, this is something we’ve considered before, but right now we don’t have the manpower. We’ll put it into the suggestion box for October, though! πŸ™‚

  12. We’re glad to have you, Kelly! I made a note that you’ll be updating later in the day so you’ll still get cheered for. πŸ™‚

  13. That’s awesome, Sherry Ann! Thank you so much! Hopefully the small changes will add up to big cheerleading success! πŸ™‚

  14. Thank you, Debi! I think this little tweak will make a huge difference…especially in the amount of tedious work Heather has to do. I hope so, anyway!

  15. Haven’t made a final decision yet but that weekend is a full weekend for me. With track all day Saturday, I am not sure I can swing it. But I wish you all well. It’s a lot of fun.

  16. I had so much fun last time leading Team Penguin for the cheerleaders. The new rules will make it even better this time around! I really love interacting and cheering during Readathon, but it’s disheartening to go to people’s link and not be able to post.

Also, it would be lovely if for just one day everyone could agree to turn on word verification! Just one day!!! <3

  17. I am so ashamed… I have not updated my personal blog since the last readathon! I want to do better at that! And picking out books for this one. Yikes, I am so moody when it comes to my reading. hahaha

  18. First time doing a readathon and I’m so excited πŸ™‚ April 26th cannot come soon enough.

  19. Okay, okay, I’m in! I do have plans for that morning, but I will commit my afternoon, evening, and beyond to the books. Thanks for twisting my arm!! πŸ™‚

  20. Are we allowed to continue reading books we have already started to read prior to challenge start time? Or is it new books only?

  21. can i just make one comment regarding the cheerleaders? Make sure when they are assigned to a site with multiple participants (like mine – two of us are doing it) that they spread the love between all participants. Last year they focused entirely on my partner in crime for the event and not a single post of mine had any cheerleader feedback. just spread it out between all participating members at the blog so everything can feel the love and spirit

  22. I hope so, Kate! We’re really trying to make the event as easy and accessible as possible for more cheerleaders! It is definitely disheartening if a link doesn’t work or one can’t post, but we do the best we can…organizers and cheerleaders alike. And I’ve been working on that word verification for you. hehe

  23. I have never participated in a read-a-thon but I have followed some in the past and I’d like to give it a try this time. I am quite sure I will be unable to read for such a long time but I’ll do my best. I’ll write a post tomorrow if I can to mention my participation (it is nearly midnight in France – I’m French: sorry for my English – and I am a wreck).

  24. Signe, our widget is currently not working. Hopefully it’ll be back up soon, or we’ll start working on an alternative.

  25. We’ll see what we can do, Kelley! We definitely shoot for that but once the cheerleaders have their team assignments they’re off and running on their own. But we’ll post a reminder!

  26. Whoops, I typed my link wrong (entry 472), so I submitted it again. Sorry about that.
Also, this is really cool. I haven’t done a readathon since the booktubeathon last summer, and it’s just been too long.
    This will be fun πŸ™‚

  27. I’m so excited to participate. This is my first time in a 24hr read-a-thon and it landed on the perfect day. I’m doing my senior project on literature and this would be a prefect addition to my end product which is the blog I’ve created. Good luck you guys!!

  28. Sorry I put mine up twice – website didn’t work for the first one.
Anyway I am looking forward to this a lot. This is my first time and I’m sure that after this I will be participating in them every time.
I am planning to read the inheritance series, the shadowhunter codex and the fault in our stars. Not all of them just bits and of the codex and only tfios if I get up to it.
    Again very sorry

  29. I have a question! Do we start the read a thon at midnight in our own time zone or is there a set time for anyone to start?

  30. Search in the search bar ‘time starts’ and click what comes up and then look for where you live and it will say the time to start.
    Hope this helps

  31. I know I missed the cheerleader deadline, but I JUST found out about this today. So could I get a cheerleader anyway? I really like challenges.

  32. Hey! Just a suggestion, but, maybe next time around you could look into doing some advertising with Figment.com(it’s a site where aspiring authors post their work for feedback) and maybe do cheerleading on there. Just a suggestion for the next readathon. I think you will find a receptive audience there since it is filled with writers reading each other’s writing. Hey, they could even count reviewing other writers’ work on the site as part of their readathon reading. Haha.
Can’t wait for the readathon. Super excited!

    ~Kyla Marie Rich : )

  33. Not sure how much I’ll read but will give it a go in an unofficial capacity. No website though sorry.

  34. hey guys!

i signed up last week, but was checking the list now, and didn’t see myself in it… i just signed up again, in case.

But does it all mean that i can’t participate now?

  35. No you can still participate if the second one went through. I signed up 3 times because I got my website wrong first and then I wanted to add my twitter.
Just make sure the second went through and if it didn’t try again

  36. First read-a-thon. I hope I can hold out the whole 24 hours, even if I do have to sleep. I’m looking forward to this and have already written a blog post on my tumblr blog explaining everything before I start at 1pm (UK Time).

    Let’s do this πŸ˜€

  37. I’ve only just found out about this and I would love to participate. The date is quite perfect timing as I’m on Easter holidays right now. Though the readathon now has already started. πŸ™
Is there gonna be another one of these this year?
Or will there not be another one till next year?

  38. sorry, tried to sign up, my link doesn’t seem to work–I tried two times. Guess I’m not sure how to add the link. Won’t try again as two attempts is already one too many. Didn’t mean to clutter the list. Sorry. : (

  39. I just signed up in the middle of the Thon. Thot I’d signed up weeks ago. I’ve blogged about it several times and forgot? Or maybe my first attempt failed. Or I just missed my name on the triple scroll through. If the latter feel free to delete the second one. I came over to check because I thot it strange I’d had no cheerleader visit yet.

We have an amazing turnout this time! This is my 14th Dewey Thon and I’m so jazzed to be a part of it.
