Hour 22 – 8 Remain…

Hour 22 – 8 Remain…

fyi-23

This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook and I will be your cohost for the remainder of this event! You are doing so great! Don’t give up now!!!

I would like to take a moment and thank all the mini-challenge hosts. Aren’t these all so much fun? And without so many people volunteering to to host a mini-challenge, we would not be able to do this by ourselves. And all these mini-challenges are part of what makes this event so unique and so much fun! Isn’t the book community so amazing? I hope that you’ve had a lot of fun, because I know I certainly have.

Genre Election

In case you missed the last update, let me briefly tell you what is going on here for the rest of the readathon. This year, during these last four hours, we are going to hold our own election. The contestants (16 of the top genres according to goodreads) are up for election on which genre is the preferred genre for readathoners. After each round of voting half of the contestants will continue to the next round and half will “drop out” of the election. I will tally the votes at quarter to the hour so I have time to make the next poll. I hope that you all enjoy this and don’t take it too seriously. It is all meant to be in good fun.

We are now onto round 2 of voting. Half of the genres have acknowledged that they won’t be the Supreme Genre. But half of them are still holding out hope. For this round, you can vote for four genres. This uses the honor system, so please don’t select more than four. So pick the four genres you love best. The options are up to you. But at a quarter till the top of the hour, only four will remain, so choice wisely!

Round 2 – Please select 4 genres only! Thank you!

Random Shakespeare Facts of the Hour

Anyone who has ever made these late night hours knows that I love to include random facts of the hour. This year, due to it being Shakespeare week, I’ve decided to do Shakespeare Random Facts. Your one for this hour is:

Sources from William Shakespeare’s lifetime spell his last name in more than 80 different ways, ranging from “Shappere” to “Shaxberd.” In the handful of signatures that have survived, the Bard never spelled his own name “William Shakespeare,” using variations or abbreviations such as “Willm Shakp,” “Willm Shakspere” and “William Shakspeare” instead. However it’s spelled, Shakespeare is thought to derive from the Old English words “schakken” (“to brandish”) and “speer” (“spear”), and probably referred to a confrontational or argumentative person.

Random Facts of the Hour

Anyone who has ever made these late night hours knows that I love to include random facts of the hour. So here are a couple random facts for this hour:

  • A recent study found that people who read are two and a half times less likely to be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Syndrome later on in life.
  • According to Cristel Russell, a behavioral researcher, reading can help with any stress or turmoil occurring in your life.
  • A study done by the University of Buffalo has concluded that access to possible realities and fictional story lines opens you up to new emotions and feelings. It also helps you to empathize with people, by understanding different cultures.

Welcome to Hour 22!!! This is Kate from Kate’s Book Nook. I will be your co-host for the last 3 hours. I hope that you are having fun!!!! I know I am.

I would like to take a moment to thank my fellow co-hosts, mini-challenge hosts and all those who do the work in the background. Thank you for giving of your time and energy to make sure this event runs smoothly. Your posts are always a bright spot to the hours. To those who host mini-challenges… you truly make this day. You provide something to look forward to and a small distraction every hour. Give us the opportunity to interact with other readers. Thank you for organizing a fun challenge for us to do. And to those who organize prizes and wrote warm up posts and do all the other numerous things that we don’t even know about, know that you are appreciated and this event wouldn’t be the same without you. Long Day lolcat

I do believe the lolcat says it all.

This mini-challenge will only be open for this hour, and the winner gets one of Lynda’s homemade bookmarks and a box of Earth Day books (check the prizes page to see what’s included).

Still happening:
